INSTALLING YOUR MODEM
Installing a cable modem is a very easy procedure that does not require you to open the case of your computer.
Access cable modems come in two types: Wired and Wireless
Installing a Wired Modem
1) Set up the modem where you would like it be located. You will need to connect two different wires to the back of the modem:
The first is a small round back power cable that has a regular electrical plug-in at the other side. This is the power cable and it gets plugged into an electrical outlet on the wall.

The second cable is a larger round cable that needs to be screwed in and is the same type of cable that plugs into a TV. This cable needs to be screwed into the back of the modem and then into the wall at the cable outlet.

2) Once the power and cable lines are connected to the modem you are ready to connect it to your computer. You do this using a cable called an ethernet cable . Plug one end of the ethernet cable into the modem and the other end into the back of the computer. The plugs on both ends look like telephone plugs only slightly larger.
3) The whole setup looks like this:

2) Once the power and cable lines are connected to the modem you are ready to connect it to your computer. To connect wirlessly you need to find the Wirless network on you computer . The name (or SSID) of the network will be Xpress____ where the blank will be three different numbers. (For example, someone's wireless network might be Xpress423 or Xpress537). There are two samples of where to look for this network for both Macs and PCs on the left hand said (Note that this may look differnet on differnet versions of windows). On a Mac, the list of networks appears when you click on the wirless symbol on the top right-hand side of the screen. On a PC, the list of networks appears when you click on the wirless symbol on the bottom right-hand side of the screen.
3) When you attempt to connect to the wireless network your computer will ask you to enter your wireless password (or Key). You should have recieved that password from Access - if you do not know your password please call the Internet help line and they can look it up for you. The password is very long - 28 characters - all capital letters and you do need to include any hypens.
