Access Communications Partners with Sask 1st Call to Improve Safety for Anyone Planning to Dig

Regina, SK –  Access Communications Co-operative (Access) has partnered with Sask 1st Call, commonly recognized as the "Click Before You Dig" program, to support safer excavation across Saskatchewan.

By joining Sask 1st Call, Access becomes part of a province-wide network of utilities working together to make excavation safer. Whether the project is a major utility installation or a homeowner planting a tree, Sask 1st Call helps ensure underground facilities are identified before work begins, significantly reducing the risk of line hits and damage to Access' underground network.

"The fibre and cable in the ground connect Saskatchewan families to work, school, healthcare, and each other," said Carmela Haines, President and CEO of Access. “Damage to those lines isn't just an inconvenience, it can take a community offline. Being part of Sask 1st Call helps protect that connection before a shovel ever hits the ground."

Before You Dig
Sask 1st Call is for anyone planning to dig or excavate. Before any ground disturbance, a locate request must be submitted so that all utilities, including Access, are aware of the planned work. This applies to large-scale excavation by utility companies, municipalities, and contractors — and to everyday projects like landscaping, planting trees, installing fence posts, building decks, or any other work that involves breaking ground.

“We are thrilled to welcome Access as a new subscriber to Sask 1st Call. Having their infrastructure mapped within our system enhances damage prevention for critical underground assets while making it easier for the public to click or call before they dig. This means fewer steps and greater peace of mind for everyone involved. Working alongside this Saskatchewan Cooperative has been a pleasure, and our Board of Directors is very pleased to see this collaboration come to life,” said Lisa Kosolofski, Director, Sask 1st Call.
