Regina, SK – The newest outdoor rink in Regina is now open. The learn-to-skate and leisure rink is designed to help those who would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in ‘what Canadians do and love’ – skating!
This community hub was built at the Access Communications Park, 2250 Park Street, with the intent that all ages can enjoy it. Skates and helmets are available at no cost. Operating hours are Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Access Communications volunteers are providing instructional learn-to-skate sessions on Saturday’s from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The learn-to-skate program will help children that don’t have much skating experience or may be on skates for the first time. The program focus will be on balance and coordination, and the introduction to such skills as stopping, pushing, and gliding. Drills and activities will provide a fun and safe learning environment where skaters will learn the fundamentals of skating.
“It’s important to our Co-operative to have these free learn-to-skate times – along with free skates and helmets for children to use,” said Tracey Mucha, Communications Manager, Access Communications Co-operative. “Giving back to the communities we serve is at the heart of all we do. A lot of smiles and laughter will be shared at the Access Communications Children’s Fund learn-to-skate and leisure Community Rink during the winter months.”
The Access Communications Children’s Fund is the title sponsor of the Community Rink. The Children’s Fund contributes funds and support to youth-based non-for-profit organizations and charities in 235 communities across Saskatchewan served by Access Communications within four areas of focus: education & literacy; health & wellness; pathways out of poverty; crime prevention. “This is a perfect fit under the health & wellness category as we recognize that good health is not merely the absence of illness, but also providing the basics that so many of us take for granted like simply being able to provide a safe place for our children to play,” commented Doug Alexander, Chair of the Access Communications Children’s Fund.
