Access Communications acquires rural internet provider KRAKR

Estevan, SK – Access Communications Co-operative today announced the acquisition of KRAKR Enterprises Inc., a local rural wireless internet provider.

“Access has an important role to play in bridging the rural-urban digital divide,” says Jim Deane, CEO of Access Communications. “This deal will position Access to better serve the underserved areas of our province and expand our rural wireless footprint, all backed by our exceptional customer service and community investment.”

KRAKR Enterprises is based in Estevan and serves customers in southeast and southwest Saskatchewan. The acquisition will add 70 new towers to the Access Communications rural wireless network, bringing the total coverage area to over 200,000 square kilometres in Saskatchewan. The deal will not only also preserve existing jobs but increase the Estevan workforce over the next few months – with additional growth potential for Access Communications’s rural wireless operations in southern Saskatchewan.

“Access’s commitment to community was a key factor in this decision,” said Brandon Rosengren, CEO of KRAKR Enterprises. “Our goal from day one was to deliver leading-edge technology to rural Saskatchewan, to improve the quality of life. And that’s what Access is all about – giving back to the communities they serve.”

With the acquisition, Access Communications will soon offer AccessRural Internet services to the areas surrounding Avonlea, Carlyle, Estevan, Frontier, Gull Lake, Shaunavon, Swift Current, Weyburn, and more. To learn more about AccessRural Internet, visit myaccess.ca.
