Regina, SK – Access Communications Co-operative (Access) is pleased to announce it has received funding from the Government of Canada’s - Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Universal Broadband Fund for two important projects to bring broadband internet to underserved areas of the province.
“Every Saskatchewan resident deserves the chance to achieve their full potential and that means having access to reliable high-speed Internet service is key,” said Carmela Haines, President and CEO of Access. “We’re pleased to be able to work with the Federal Government to improve connectivity for two underserved areas in our province.”
Over the next two years, Access will be installing 22 new wireless internet towers in south-central Saskatchewan. It will cover over 4,600 square kilometres, starting north of Willow Bunch and extending to the US border. When operational, the towers will deliver a minimum of 50 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload. In addition, residents in the Turtle Lake area (northwest of North Battleford) including Kivimaa-Moonlight Bay, Horseshoe Bay, and Indian Point-Golden Sands will be receiving a mix of fixed and wireless broadband internet greatly improving connectivity.
In total, 2,086 households will benefit from being able to connect with Access’s fast and reliable internet product. Access Communications was awarded $4.6 M by ISED to complete these projects. To learn more about the Universal Broadband Fund, visit www.ic.gc.ca.
Access currently delivers urban like internet services to 113 Saskatchewan communities, exceeding the federal government’s recommended minimum of 50 Mbps download speeds.
